Fairview-Clifton Book Club

FAIRVIEW- CLIFTON BOOK CLUB

Grades 4-6

Interested in an after school book club 4th quarter?

Frau Connor is offering the opportunity to have a book club 4th quarter after school in the library. Our first reading selection will be Other Words for Home by Jasmine Warga, set right here in Clifton. Come read the moving story of Jude, a Syrian girl who leaves everything and everyone behind when she and her mother flee her war-torn home to move to Cincinnati. How is life in America different from the movies Jude has seen? Will she be accepted by her classmates or be forever labeled that “Middle-Eastern” girl? Will America ever become “home” to her?

Join us as we read this award-winning debut novel and discuss what it is like to leave home and move to a foreign country to start a whole new life at the same time facing the same issues every middle school kid faces.

Books will be available for purchase or borrowing for the club and size will be limited to 12 or less members. We are undecided on the day yet so let Frau Connor know what day works best for you and we will try to accommodate everyone if we can. Looking forward to a great club!

Girls on the Run

Spring 2020 Program Registration

Registration begins Monday for Girls on the Run At CRC Clifton. Participation is open to all.

What is Girls on the Run?

Meeting twice a week in small teams, Girls on the Run teaches life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The curriculum is taught by certified Girls on the Run coaches and includes three parts: understanding themselves, valuing relationships and teamwork, and understanding how girls connect with and shape the world at large.

This is not a running club or competitive. Girls on the Run is a physical activity, positive youth development program.

What is the commitment?  When does the team meet?

Girls gather as a team with volunteer coaches twice per week, from February 17-May 9. On May 9, all teams come together for the GOTR 5K downtown!  Because each lesson combines running activities with character development topics, and builds upon the previous lesson, girls MUST be able to commit to BOTH days per week for the entire season. With a limited number of spots on each team, please only register your participant if you both can make this commitment.
